My advice is wait for a better offer for your job. Recession does not mean there is no vacancy if you are talented enough. Most companies base their incentives on a certain percentage of their current salary. In simple words, if you being with a low pay, the future bonus and the increment figure will even be dismal, as they will be based in proportion with the existing salary. This is why it is important to get the best deserved salary right from the beginning itself.

Default Should I negotiate for the salary? Can fresher negotiate salary for his first job

Should I negotiate for the salary if I need the job and it is the only one of the few options available? And my brother is getting his first job. Can a first timer-fresher negotiate for the salary for his first job?

Negotiating for the right salary (not an unrealistic but ideal figure) is perfectly acceptable because employers are ready to negotiate especially if the candidate is worth the job and the HR is aware that he or she will be valuable to the company. In fact, the negotiation that you do will show that you have a professional approach and are abreast of the market trends. However, if it is made clear in the initial stages of the interview that the salary is non-negotiable, then don’t negotiate it.
